Pay

Phlebotomist salary

Phlebotomist salary in national statistics is a median, not an offer letter. Half of workers earned less than that figure and half earned more.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a median pay of $43,660 a year ($20.99 an hour) for phlebotomists in May 2024, about 139,700 jobs, and employment growth of 6 percent from 2024 to 2034, with roughly 18,400 openings a year. Pay is higher in some outpatient and laboratory settings and lower in others. Local wages are not the national median.

The lowest 10 percent earned less than $34,860 and the highest 10 percent earned more than $57,750, on the same national table. Setting, shift, and city move a wage more than the name of the school does. Outpatient and laboratory employers are not interchangeable with every hospital scale.

Use the median to sanity-check tuition. A program that costs as much as a year of the median wage is a different decision from a program that costs a few weeks of it. The school card’s published tuition, when present, is the number to put next to this page.

Questions

Will certification raise my pay?

It can make you eligible for jobs that require it. It does not, by itself, change a wage scale. The employer’s scale does that.
