Certificate
Phlebotomy certificate program
A phlebotomy certificate program is the school’s own award for finishing the course. Certification is a separate exam result.
IPEDS calls many of these awards a certificate of less than a year, sometimes less than twelve weeks. That language is about length, not about prestige. A community college and a private career school can both issue a certificate.
Keep the words apart when you search. “Certificate program” finds the school. “Certification” finds the exam. Employers sometimes say certificate when they mean the exam. Ask which document they want in the file.
A certificate from a school in one state may still help you sit a national exam used in another. It may not meet California’s approved-school rule. Match the paper to the state where you will draw blood.

Questions
Is a certificate enough to get hired?
Sometimes, especially where the employer trains and then expects the exam. Ask the employer before you assume either document is optional.
Does a certificate expire?
The school certificate usually does not. National credentials and state certificates often have a renewal date. Read the one you hold.
