Classes
Phlebotomy classes
Phlebotomy classes teach blood collection, specimen handling, and how to work with a patient who is nervous about a needle.
A typical class sequence moves from anatomy of the veins and skin, to equipment, to the order of draw, labeling, and what to do when a draw fails. Schools also cover gloves, sharps, and exposure steps. The class is not the same thing as a shift in a hospital lab.
Length varies. Some workforce listings in this directory name a few weeks. Others are a college certificate that runs longer because it adds medical terminology or a second skill such as EKG. Read the program name on the school card before you compare prices.
Classes can be daytime, evening, or a hybrid with lessons online and draws in person. A fully remote class cannot replace supervised needle practice. Ask where the sticks happen and who signs off on them.
