Course
Phlebotomy course
A phlebotomy course is a short postsecondary program in drawing blood and handling the specimen so the lab result can be trusted.
Courses usually mix demonstration, return demonstration, and a set number of successful sticks. The number is set by the school or, in California, by the state rules for an approved program. Ask for that number in writing.
A course title that also says medical assistant, EKG, or patient care tech is a longer bundle. You may want the extra skill, or you may be paying for weeks you do not need. Compare the credential named on the listing, not only the brand of the school.
Completion of the course is a school document. It is not automatically a national credential and it is not a state license. Those are separate applications.

Questions
Is a phlebotomy course a degree?
Usually it is a certificate, not an associate or bachelor’s degree. IPEDS records in this directory often show certificates of less than a year.
What should I ask before I pay?
Start date, total price, refund rule, how many draws are required, where externship is served, and which exam the school prepares you to take.
