Phlebotomy program

A phlebotomy program is the school’s plan for teaching the skill, scheduling the practice, and documenting that you finished.

Compare programs on facts you can check. This directory shows the program name, a published tuition when a workforce list includes one, weeks or hours when they are listed, and whether the school reported phlebotomy awards to IPEDS under CIP 51.1009.

An IPEDS award count is not a quality score. It means the institution reported completions for that classification year. A private course that does not report to IPEDS can still be a real class. It is simply documented another way, often on a state training list.

California programs that appear on the Department of Public Health approved list are marked on the school card. In that state, approval is part of the path to the state certificate. In other states, approval rules differ and many employers look for a national exam instead.

Questions

What is CIP 51.1009?

It is the federal classification code for Phlebotomy Technician/Phlebotomist. Colleges use it when they report completions.

Does a workforce listing mean the program is free?

No. It means the program has been submitted to a state eligible-training list. A person may qualify for workforce funding. The school still has a price.
